LANSING – State Representative Harold Haugh (D-Roseville) today praised Roseville resident Lisa Neuman for her recent achievement in earning the Charles T. Kuntzleman Award. The award, which is presented by the Michigan Health Ministries of Ascension Health, is given to residents who have overcome great challenges to pursue physical activity as a part of their daily routine.
"Lisa is a great example of the determination and spirit that Roseville residents possess," Haugh said. "Her dedication is an inspiration that will serve as an encouraging reminder that it is possible to change your lifestyle in order to be the best you can be. I'd like to congratulate Lisa and all of the other award recipients who are great role models for residents all across Michigan."
In 2007, when she became worried about the health problems that were associated with her weight gain in college, Neuman decided to make a commitment to change her life. She went on a specialized diet and exercised regularly, aiming to burn 2,000 calories per week. Neuman set a goal to participate in the Detroit Marathon, and she worked with a Michigan-based group called Marathon Mission for support. She trains five days a week and mixes up her routine with cardio and weight training for one-to two-hour sessions. The Roseville woman now uses motivational speaking to encourage others to achieve a healthy life and reach for their dreams
The Charles T. Kuntzleman Award is named after the former Chair of the Governor's Council and Michigan Fitness Foundation. Kuntzleman is the author of several books including "They Accepted the Challenge." He is an internationally renowned fitness and health expert, and was inducted into the National Fitness Hall of Fame in March 2008.
